A leading footwear supplier is looking to recruit within their technical department. If you have solid technical ability and have a proven track record of working with High Street retailers then I want to speak to you.

Technologist (Footwear)– The Role:

  • Maintain and improve the quality of incoming products into the warehouse and carry out quality tests.
  • Assessing production processes, e.g. last assessment, heat/time dwell, pressure of machines, sole preparation system.
  • Assess footwear ranges prior to production, advising on any necessary improvements to design, construction and fit.
  • Conduct extensive factory audits and effect change where required.
  • To form a solid working relationship with the production teams.
  • Analyse worn returns and implement any improvement which may be gathered from this process.

Technologist (Footwear) The Person:

  • Experience of working with womens footwear is essential.
  • A successful candidate must be certified in either footwear or textile testing.
  • Have a strong background of working with High Street retailers or suppliers.
  • Prior experience of setting up new processes and analysing there success and impact on the business.
  • It is essential that you are a strong and clear communicator who has the ability to work with overseas production bases.
  • The ability to work under their own initiative, and part of a team.
  • A background in a similar role is desirable.

Footwear & Plastics Technicians

Our client is an Orthotics Manufacturer based in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire that is currently going through a period of growth. Due to this growth they are looking for people with footwear and plastics manufacturing skills to enhance their team. We would like to speak to anyone with skills in these sectors, but we would particularly like to hear from anyone with the following skills:

As the Footwear Technician your duties will be to:

  • Manufacture bespoke last and casts;
  • Hand lasting;
  • Model making;
  • Building up of lasts with cork to specification;
  • Sole maker, to include adapting soles to specific requirements;
  • Alteration of footwear after fitting;
  • Alteration of lasts using grindery machinery.

To be successful as a Footwear Technician you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Must have experience in the following areas –
    • Engineering;
    • Wood working;
    • Use of hand grinding machines;
    • Use of Lathes;
  • Outstanding hand / eye coordination;
  • Precise measuring skills;
  • Modelling skills;

As the Plastics Technician your duties will include:

  • Rectification of plaster casts;
  • Moulding plastic;
  • Trimming and buffing plastic to meet order specifications.

To be a successful Plastics Technician you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Must have experience in the following areas;
    • Engineering;

FOOTWEAR TECHNICIAN for Hunter Boot Limited

Key responsibilities:

Unpacking and logging of GSS, Extreme fits and Production trials samples in preparation for quality inspection and fit assessment
Photographing product and compiling concise and clear quality technical feedback for factories when required.
General secretarial duties such as expenses, filing, typing, formatting, communicating reports on customer returns and weekly UK DC mending sheets
Updating, initiating and approving final Visual Quality Standard documents
Updating bulk product specs when needed, for quality improvements
Maintaining and updating the seasonal GSS and Standardisation matrix
Organising internal and external quality meetings as required including diary management for the Quality Team
As required Assist Customer Services and International Sales on basic quality queries from customers
Ad hoc quality team duties and projects as required
Provide holiday cover for key activities of quality team members
Assist the Product Development Team with Tech 1 fitting and approvals
Manage the fitting participants library for extreme sizes
Arrange extreme size wear trial sample shipping, reporting and follow up, organise wear trial review meetings for Product & Quality Team.
UK DC Visits for customer returns review & reporting back to the factories
As and when required, be willing and able to visit UK, European and International customers / distributors to review quality queries through to resolve
Assist in the approval of Gold Seal Samples, sign off and distribution of the UK DC, London Office, China Central Library and Factory samples.
As and when required – be willing and able to travel to Asia & Europe to support the Technical and Quality Manager on factory visits, inspections and quality reviews.
As and when required – review and update the “QMAP” Quality Management action plan documentation
Any other duties as required.
Responsible for overseeing the Master “Visual Quality Standards” VQS B Grade VQS Manuals sent from Far East. Setting the agreed standard and reviewing for stock built up every quarter
Assist Accessories team with technical and quality issues, including testing standards.
Assist Accessories team with commercialisation process – GSS through to Production
Monitor current and on-going testing schedules for all products, suggest, agree and implement improvements where necessary.
Establish fitting guides and last charts for all footwear.
Support and resolve any production issues whilst in the UK or Far East.

My client seeks a commercial Footwear Technologist to manage women’s and men’s footwear. You will be up to date on current footwear legislations and be able to demonstrate a solid understanding in footwear construction and possess good manufacturing knowledge.

Job responsibilities:

• Work from design concept through to delivery in stores.
• Improve efficiency and quality and keeping up-to date on footwear standards.
• Provide technical and development support to teams and buyers.
• Create technical specs and work with suppliers in the UK and Far East.
• Manage fit sessions and relay fit comments back to suppliers.
• Work closely with buyers and designers and advise on construction, fit, development & materials.
• Manage the approval and sealing process.
• Update and maintain supplier technical manuals as well as requesting and managing test reports.
• Work with warehouse to ensure quality is acceptable to approved technical standards.
• Manage wearer trials and report writing.
• Some overseas travel might be required to oversee production or to resolve any technical issues with factories.
